This is part of its plans to become the third largest smartphone and mobile phone vendor in the world by 2015.

As per last year’s estimates, the company has shipped 15 million smartphones. Majority of the sales have taken place inAsia. Since it wishes to sell 35 million units, ZTE must go beyond the Chinese borders and should expand its sales to theUS.

ZTE will launch the upcoming models under the “Grand” series. These new models could help ZTE compete in the competitiveUSmarket. However, the Grand X LTE, the recently announced offering from ZTE, is meant for European and Asia Pacific regions.

IDC research says the company holds a 4.8 percent marketshare with 19.8 million mobile phones shipped in Q1 2012. In comparison, Apple sold 17.7 million iPhones between September and December, 2011. And Samsung Galaxy S III is likely to cross the 10-million mark by this July.
