Ubuntu Touch Mobile OS will Launch in Late 2013

The Ubuntu mobile version OS, called Ubuntu Touch, is expected to hit the market by late 2013. Though, the software is still in beta, it is now available for download.

The Ubuntu mobile OS carries the same classic purple and orange color scheme as the desktop version. It has no physical or on-screen navigation buttons, instead, a series of gestures will control the OS.


The OS has four basic home screens including Home, Music, People, Video and Apps. From the Home screen you can access several categories including Frequent Apps, Favorite People, People Recently in Touch, Recent Music and Videos Popular Online.

The Frequent Apps section will display your six most-used apps, where as the Favorite People category provides you with images of your favorite contacts.

On the People screen, you can get your contacts’ numbers, images, social media updates, email addresses and home addresses. While the Music screen offers categories including Featured, Recent, New Releases and Top Charting.

Incoming and outgoing messages are combined in one unified inbox and it can be accessible from the letter icon at the top of the screen. You can also get the Facebook updates, missed Skype calls, missed phone calls text messages from here.

The Ubuntu Touch is fairly unchanged from its desktop version, so that developers will be able to create apps which can be used in multiple devices without making any major modification.
