Review: MSI Slidebook S20

The MSI Slidebook S 20 is a flagship Windows 8 device from MSI who mainly concentrate on gaming systems. The Slidebook S 20 has a slider design so that you can use it as an Ultrabook or tablet.

The design seems convenient at first, but you have to use more force to pull up the screen. Every time you slide the display, it feel rubbing up against the keyboard underneath. The screen of the device is framed by thin black bezel. A 1-megapixel camera is provided above the display.

The Slidebook S20’s 11.6-inch 1920 x 1080 IPS display offers sharp and colorful visuals. Two speakers are located on the underside of the Slidebook S20 produces enough sound.

The Ultrabook measures 11.8 x 7.7 x 0.8-inches and weighs just 2.6 pounds, still it feels heavy when used as a tablet.

Unfortunately, the Slidebook S20’s keyboard is disappointing. The lack of wrist support makes typing for long periods uncomfortable. The undersized keys also restrict the typing speed.

The device packs a collective bunch of ports like two USB 3.0 ports, a mini HDMI slot, a headphone jack, the power button and power port. An Ethernet jack is provided at the left edge and a volume rocker and screen orientation lock button are provided at the top edge.

The other specification of the Slidebook S20 includes 1.7-GHz Intel Core i5-3317U processor, 4GB of RAM and 128GB SSD. This Windows 8 Ultrabook is  priced at $1,200.

The MSI Slidebook S20 offers a sharp full HD display and exceptional audio quality but it lacks a touchpad or pointing device. Also it comes with a awkward sliding design and cramped keyboard.
