Review: LG Optimus G Pro

LG’s Optimus G Pro is a phablet that comes with big ambitions. It combines an impressive 5.5-inch 1080p display and a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor with many impressive set of applications.

The handset measures 5.8 x 3 x 0.37 inches in dimension and weighs 6.2 ounces. The LG Optimus G Pro is one of the largest phones on the market with a massive 5.5-inch display. But its mass is spread out over a larger area, therefore the handset felt lighter than other handsets with same weight.

The device has a shiny plastic body with a 3.5mm headphone jack on the top. A capacitive back button, a hard clickable home button and a capacitive menu button sit beneath the display. LG has provided a programmable shortcut button on the left side, above the volume rocker. This button is called the QButton, and launches QMemo by default but can be set to launch any app. The 5.5-inch, 1080p screen provides sharp images and wide viewing angles.

Unlike many other handsets, LG Optimus G Pro has a removable back panel with a user-replaceable battery. The Optimus G Pro’s software is even more attractive than its powerful components. The handset runs on Android 4.1.2 Jellybean.

One of the best custom features in the LG Optimus G Pro is its QSlide. It allows you to run up to two of seven possible LG applications in their own draggable, resizable windows that sit in a layer on top of the desktop. Each Qslide app can be toggled back and forth between full screen mode and windows mode.

The 1.7-GHz, quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 CPU and 2GB of RAM, offers blazing fast performance while you were editing video, surfing the Web or swiping through the gallery.

The LG Optimus G Pro’s 13-megapixel rear-facing camera took sharp, detailed images in dim lighting conditions while the 2-megapixel front-facing camera captures sharp, detailed images of our face in bright light.

The LG Optimus G Pro’s 3,140 mAh battery will last up to 6 hours and 49 minutes.

The LG Optimus G Pro promises a huge display with wide viewing angles, strong performance and fantastic multitasking software. But the handset lacks stylus despite its note-taking software and the cameras struggle in low light.
