India Now the World’s Third Biggest Smartphone Market

A recent study  by Strategy Analytics suggests that India has pushed Japan to become the world’s third-biggest smartphone market in Q1 o this year. The report also suggests that it is the first time that India has moved up to the third position, after China and the US.

The research experts say that India’s smartphone market is growing four times faster than the global average with 163 per cent in the first quarter of 2013, where as the global average is at 39 per cent.


The study also found that the Indian mobile market is growing quicker than other major markets such as China(86%), the US( 19%) and Japan(24%).

According to the report, the growing population and the interest in electronics products are the two major reasons behind this rising sales rate of mobilephones in India.

Along with top end players like Apple and Samsung, many other local Indian mobile makers are also delivering a mass units of mobile devices to the market. Local brands like Micromax, Karbonn and Spice are also reporting high sales rate.

After realizing the potential of Indian market many high end device manufacturer like Apple and Samsung have been putting more attention to this emerging market to ensure their growth.

Currently, the Indian mobile market is anticipating the release of eight new smartphones, including Micromax’ Canvas 4, Apple iPhone 5S and cheaper iPhone, BlackBerry’s Z5 and LG Optimus G2.
