Huawei Overtakes Ericsson as Leading Supplier of Telecom Hardware and Software

Following the publication of its sales for the first half of this year Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. can now claim that they are the world’s leading supplier of telecom hardware and software.

There is no doubt that a number of variables make the comparisons slightly uneven. Especially the breadth of portfolios as Huawei has made a big advancement in the enterprise technology and mobile devices sectors in the past year.

At the basic level, using the U.S. dollar as the unifying global currency, the Chinese vendor Huawei is now bigger than Ericsson.

At the current exchange rates, Huawei’s reported revenues for the first six months of 2012 come up to a total of US$16.1 billion, and for Ericsson it came up to $15.25 billion.

Nokia Siemens Networks, with first-half revenues of $8 billion (€6.59 billion) is a little off pace.

Alcatel-Lucent and ZTE Corp haven’t yet reported their second-quarter sales, will not be troubling the leading duo. AlcaLu reported that their first-quarter revenues come around $3.9 billion. They are expected to report sales of around $4.23 billion for the second quarter when they report their latest earnings on July 26.

ZTE had stated recently that their revenues for the first six months of 2012 will be greater than the $5.8 billion it recorded a year ago.
