Huawei H2 7-inch Slate Gets Set for India

If efforts progress as per plans for Huawei, the phone maker will soon bring to the Indian market a 7-inch tablet. As you all know the Indian slate market is already witnessing boom, with a whopping 905,000 tablets being sold in Q1 2013. This has spurred global phone and tab makers to be drawn towards the Indian consumer and we are now seeing domestic and multinational vendors launching devices in various ranges.

The new Huawei device will be named H2 and would, as mentioned, boast a 7-inch display. Neither the resolution nor the exact specifications have however been revealed. It is expected that the device could come during Q3 or Q4 and may be priced below Rs 13,000.

Now, if you though the device would look similar in design and specs with the Google Nexus 7, Huawei has ruled out any such similarity. But on the pricing front, there is a similarity, with the first-gen Nexus 7 costing Rs15,999.

The Chinese vendor has already released a 7-inch model, MediaPad 7 Lite, in India. It was launched last year for a price of Rs.13,700. Now it is sold at Rs.2,000 discount on e-retailer, Flipkart. The device comes with 7-inch display with a resolution of 1024x600p, powered by 1.2 GHz Cortex A8 processor assisted by 1 GB of RAM.

It features 4GB of internal memory which can be expanded via microSD cards. The powerhouse for the device is a 4,100mAh Li Ion battery and runs on Android 4.0 ICS OS.

The real threat, we guess, for the H2 comes from Indian manufacturers Micromax, Lava and Karbonn. They charge Rs.9,499 for 3G voice calling tablet. So the company needs to look at the pricing factor yet again before launch.
