Different Avatars of the Apple iPhone

It was in 2007 when Apple had launched its first iPhone. Now after 5 years, the company has introduced their 6th generation iPhone 5 a few days ago. Here is a look at the different generations of the amazing handset from the company at Cupertino.

First Generation

The original iPhone features a 3.5 inches multi-touch display with five physical buttons and comes with chrome plated metal frame. The back of which was made of aluminum with a black plastic base and the camera was in the upper-left corner of the iPhone’s rear.

Second Generation

The second generation device – the iPhone 3G – was similar to its predecessor but included several new hardware features like Assisted GPS, 3G data and tri-band UMTS/HSDPA. When the phone first released it had been running on Apple iPhone OS 2.0.But later on, its users received an iOS 3.0 and iOS 4.0 update. And in 2010 iPhone 3G users obtained an iOS 4.1 update. The device was provided with a 2.0 megapixel camera which had no facilities such as optical zoom, flash, or autofocus, and did not support video recording.

Third Generation

The third generation – iPhone 3GS – offered better performance, better camera and higher resolution and voice control. The device is claimed to be two times faster than its predecessor. The 3 megapixel camera in the iPhone 3GS features a slider which allows users to switch between capturing photos and recording videos. It was powered by an internal 3.7 V 1219 mAh rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery and available in three versions 8 GB, 16 GB and 32 GB.

Fourth Generation

The iPhone 4 is a touchscreen 3G smartphone. The most noticeable change in iPhone 4 is its new design, which incorporates an uninsulated stainless steel frame that acts as the device’s antenna. It had an Apple A4 processor and 512 MB of eDRAM and the 960×640 pixel resolution is marketed as the Retina display. The device runs iOS 4. Two cameras a front end 0.3 megapixel camera and a 5 MP back end camera is included in iPhone4.

Fifth Generation

The iPhone 4S uses iOS 5.1.1 and the Apple A5 system-on-a-chip (SoC) that incorporates an Imagination Technologies PowerVR SGX543 graphics processing unit (GPU). The iPhone 4S had a 512 MB of DDR2 RAM. The camera on the iPhone 4S, is known as an iSight camera, can take 8 megapixel photos (3,264 by 2,448 pixels) and record 1080p videos at up to 30 frames per second with upgraded quality. The device offers Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity.

Sixth Generation

­­­­­­The sixth generation iPhone5 is the thinnest handset than its predecessor. The device features 4G LTE connectivity and a slightly larger screen with 1136 x 640-pixel resolution. Other advantages are its new and improved battery light, new iSight camera and a smaller connector. Another significant element is its nano-SIM that is part of size reduction. The device is 9mm taller than iPhone 4S.the device is compatible with HSPA, HSPA+, and DC-HSDPA. Above all the iPhone5 comes with Apple’s new Operating System iOS 6.
