China is the Largest Android Market: Research

China is the world’s largest Android market, says latest research from Informa Telecoms & Media. According to them about 786 million smartphones will be sold around the world by the end of the 2012. This is a 45 percent increase compared with 2011.

A total of 461 million units of Android devices were sold in 2012, where as one- third of these smartphones were sold in China alone and that makes China the largest Android market in the world.

It is a large number compared with the US, which is the second-largest Android market, where the total Android device sales are around 11 percent.

According to the report Chinese smartphone market is growing very fast with about 85% growth in 2012.

Although, Apple has sold more than 2 million iPhone 5S in the opening weekend in China, it share only 5 % of market share in the country. And Microsoft’s Windows Phone holds only one percent of the market in China.

The report even predicts a continuous growth for Android until the year 2015, and after 2016 the Android device might face competition from other OS, most probably from Windows Phone. But at that time one in every two handsets sold  worldwide will be Android, says Malik Saadi, the principal analyst at Informa.
